Wealth Blades

Karok Obsidian Wealth Blades... Northern California was the center of a ceremonial complex in which wealth was represented by obsidian blades.The Karok and Hupa carried these blades in dances such as the white deer dance. The blades were made by Karok Knapper, Ted Orcutt (1862-1938). Known as the white deer knapper, he had the honor of knapping the massive obsidian blades for the ceremony known as the white deer dance.
