Yokuts gambling tray

Item#: 6016-30

A fine and large gambling tray with 32 friendship figures by master weaver Lois Conner of the Yokuts Chukchansi Tribe. Weaving for over 30 years, Lois learned the techniques of coiling and twining from her grandmothers and aunts. This tray took over a year to weave and is 30 inches in diameter and circa 2005. Materials are of roots of sedge, bracken fern, and redbud shoots. Trays as this one were used in a type of dice game played mainly by women. The dice was generally created from the half shell of a black walnut.
